Lanny Busby Obituary

Lanny Glen Busby, was born in Melfort, SK on September 21st, 1950. His elementary school days from grade 1-7 were taken at Thatch Creek Community School. His high school years were spent at HBCH (Hudson Bay Composite High School). From there he joined the Air Force completing his basic training at Cornwallis, ONT, then continued on to Ottawa to fulfill a career in the medical core.  After the military, Lanny returned to Melfort SK, and with his parents, and now as a licensed funeral director/embalmer,  established the long-standing family business “Melfort Funeral Home.”  After this, his journey led him to the oil industry which contributed to the many loved, animated and dramatic tales of the Beaufort Sea and Tuktoyaktuk. Lanny was and could have been a lifelong farmer; unfortunately, he hated getting dirty.  In 1990 Lanny moved his family to Edmonton and continued his work as a funeral director for:  Chapel of Chimes, Westlawn, Howard & McBride and Evergreen Funeral home.

Lanny longed for a quieter life, and eventually moved and established his own funeral home at Wabamun, expanding to Onoway and finally settling in Evansburg . Lanny valued hard work, dedication, compassion and kindness which was reflected in how he conducted himself in his work and in his life. Lanny was a very social being, who was known for his charming wit, amazing stories and funny catch phrases. You could always find him walking down the street, going for coffee with friends and work-family; as well as attending bible study at his church. Lanny always enjoyed a visit, while relaxing and having “a quick rest,” in his favourite recliner.

His legacy lives on in his children, daughters Camille, Amy and son Blake. Lanny loved and doted on his grandson Elijah, who he loved beyond words. He is missed deeply by his family: mother, Dorothy Busby, sister Lynda Amendt (Wes), Doug Busby (Myra), sister Jean Busby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and work/community family.

He was predeceased by his father, Glen Busby, and nephew Jay Busby.

A special and loving thank-you to the family and colleagues at Town and Country Funeral home and all those who worked so hard for Lanny and his family during this very difficult time.

Dad always said “Lanny was loved by all who knew him,” and he was right! Thank you all for loving our dad so well.
